Biological effectiveness of internal exposure relative to external Exposures was estimated from microdosimetry analysis. It can be concluded from the analysis that the risk from internal exposures to Cs-137, Cs-134, and I-131 should be nearly equivalent to that of external exposure to -rays at the same absorbed dose level, as suggested in the current recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection.

At Ningyo-toge Environmental Engineering Center, the decommissioning project of the nuclear facilities has been progressed. The facilities in Ningyo-toge were used for the research and the development for uranium exploration, refining, conversion and enrichment. In order to make steady progress the project, the measurement of radio activity is very important part in various techniques for decommissioning. The main need is the activities' investigation for the evaluation of the exposure with the deconstruction of the facilities, the grasp of inventory in existing waste drums and containers, the clearance verification, the waste form measurement. In this presentation, we report, actually or generally, the present state for the needs based on the features in the alpha, beta and rays.

At Ningyo-toge Environmental Engineering Center, the decommissioning project of the nuclear facilities has been progressed. The facilities in Ningyo-toge were used for the research and the development for uranium exploration, refining, conversion and enrichment. By the kind of used uranium, the facilities are categorized to NORM source facility or nuclear fuel facility. These facilities have been used NORM source, which contains uranium progenies, refined natural uranium and recovered uranium, and the difference is occurred between the classes of nuclear components by the processes. For the practical treatment and disposal, it is important that the nuclide components classes will be characterized and set the specific activities of the classes appropriately. In this presentation, we report the development of simple classification method for nuclide components using machine learning by NaI spectra.

JAEA is now developing CT dose calculator named WAZA-ARI in cooperation with the Oita University of Nursing and Health Sciences. WAZA-ARI has been opened to the public as trial uses on 21 December 2012. To upgrade dose calculation functions of WAZA-ARI for full-dress uses, we developed the dose coefficients database sets based on infant phantoms with 5 ages (0y, 1y, 5y, 10y, 15y) and adult phantoms with 3 body sizes (-2, +2, +5). These database sets represent that organ doses are strongly dependent on body sizes of phantoms. Thus, it can be concluded that these dose coefficients database sets are very useful for dose assessment derived from CT scans against patients with various body sizes in Japan.
